ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 23, 2014) – Eight crewmen of a small boat survived a collision Thursday with another boat off Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, the Coast Guard said.
It said the ill-fated boat “AJ Express” was loaded with cargoes on its way to Zamboanga del Norte’s Siocon town when it was rammed by the boat “Wilma” near Labuan village. The eight crew members managed to swim ashore.
Coast Guard Zamboanga chief Jomark Angue said authorities were investigating the collision, but initial reports suggested Wilma was allegedly loaded with illegally cut lumber. The boat’s skipper was taken by the maritime police as investigation continues.
Angue said there was no report of oil leakage from the sunken boat. (E. Dumabo)
