80 OFWs escape violence in Syria

Editor January 30, 2013
Syria

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 30, 2013) – The Philippines said 80 more Filipino workers who escaped the violence in the strife-torn Syria are expected to back home on Wednesday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the workers have availed of the government’s Mandatory Repatriation Program. It said the arrival of the Filipinos will bring the total number of repatriates to 3,451.

It appealed to Filipinos who are still in Syria to seek immediate repatriation as the security situation in the country continues to deteriorate.

“For assistance they may call the Embassy at 963-11-6132626. The relatives of Filipinos in Syria may also provide the Department of Foreign Affairs with latest information regarding their loved ones’ present location and contact details in Syria,” it said, adding those who wish to do so may call the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs at (02) 834-3240 or 834-4583 or the DFA Action Center at (02) 834-3333.
