MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 26, 2014) – A radio commentator in Dagupan City outside Manila was wounded after being hit with a bullet before dawn Monday, the media watchdog National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.
It said Orly Navarro was hit in the shoulder while talking to a tricycle driver near his house at around 1 a.m.
Navarro is the acting manager of radio station dwIZ and is a known hard-hitting commentator who hosts a news and commentary program “Orly sa IZ.”
The NUJP did not say whether Navarro was shot by a gunman or hit with a stray bullet and whether the victim was receiving death threats due to his commentaries on various issues.
“Navarro was on his way home at around one o’clock in the morning and was about 15 meters away from his house in Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City, when he heard a gunshot. He then felt his left shoulder numb and heavy.”
“He told the tricycle driver, to whom he was talking, to bring him to the nearest hospital. He is being observed before he will undergo an operation to remove the bullet lodged in his shoulder,” the NUJP statement said. (Mindanao Examiner)
