BASILAN PROVINCE (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 25, 2014) – An unidentified gunman shot dead Monday a suspected Abu Sayyaf member in Lamitan City in the southern Philippine province of Basilan, police said.
Police said the gunman fled after shooting Abdul in downtown Lamitan. It was unknown if the militant was on a mission, but police said Abdul was not a resident of Lamitan, but Ungkaya Pukan town.
Abdul died instantly from the attack. Police did not say if the assailant had been identified or not, or whether the attack was connected to a feud.
Authorities have largely blamed the Abu Sayyaf to the spate of ransom kidnappings and killings in Basilan, one of five provinces under the restive Muslim autonomous region in Mindanao. (Mindanao Examiner)
