PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 22, 2014) – Philippine authorities arrested a French tourist who went berserk and tried to attack several people with an axe in the southern city of Pagadian, officials said Friday.
Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman, said the 36-year old Laurent Marc Francois Marse Dela Garde, was immediately arrested by local authorities.
He said the foreigner, who is from the French city of Lyon, is temporarily residing at Rosario Homes Subdivision in the village of Dao where the incident occurred. It was unknown what drove the Frenchman to go wild, but police said his tourist visa expired on August 18.
“The Frenchman is facing charges of attempted murder, and alarm and scandal and is currently detained at the Pagadian City Police Station,” Samuddin said.
It was not immediately known if the French embassy in Manila was aware of the arrest or whether it has been notified by the Philippine government. (Mindanao Examiner)
