
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 2, 2014) – Brigadier General Gerardo Barrientos Jr has formally assumed Wednesday as commander of the 1st Infantry Division in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern Philippines.
Barrientos, who was the assistant commander of the 4th Infantry Division in Cagayan de Oro City in northern Mindanao, replaced Major General Virgilio Trinidad, who now heads the Northern Luzon Command.
Philippine Army acting chief Major General Romulo Cabantac, Jr. presided over the change of command held at the division headquarters at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Labangan town.
Barrientos, a bemedalled army officer, was among 48 generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, promoted in March along with newly-appointed Philippine Army chief Major General Hernando Iriberri.
He previously commanded the 102nd Infantry Brigade in Zamboanga Sibugay province. (Mindanao Examiner)
