CEBU CITY – Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy said the Metro Pacific Investment Corp. of business magnate Manny Pangilinan is eyeing the construction of a P15-billion toll bridge linking his town to Cebu City.
He said if the project pushes through the construction of the bridge will start from the village of Pilipog to Shell Island and once operational, it will impose a toll up to P100 per vehicle to recover the cost of the project.
Sitoy said the groundbreaking of the third bridge that will link Mactan Island and Cebu could start next January, adding the project is viable because an average of 82,000 vehicles use the two existing bridges daily.
The number of vehicles using the bridges is increasing, he said.
Sitoy said that if the third bridge will be realized, it will be easier for motorists from Cebu City and the rest of southern Cebu to go to Cordova and the Mactan Cebu International Airport.
Cebu Rep. Raul del Mar also proposed the construction of an underwater tunnel from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Lapu-Lapu City to connect straight to the MCIA. He said the tunnel will ease access to and from the country’s busiest airport outside Manila.
