ZAMBOANGA CITY – Ipinagluluksa ngayon ng militar ang pagkamatay ng dalawang opisyal at isang sarhento nito matapos na masabugan ng bomba ang kanilang convoy sa bayan ng Patikul sa lalawigan ng Sulu.

Anim na sundalo rin ang sugatan sa naturang ambush ng Abu Sayyaf sa Barangay Pansul nitong Marso 4 at naimpormahan na ng militar ang pamilya ng mga nasawi na nakilalang sina 1Lt. Emerson Somera, na taga-Abra; 1Lt. Fernan Magbanua, na mula naman sa Iloilo; at Sgt. Niel Daez.

Ang mga sugatan ay nakilalang sina Sgt. Julieto Payumo, Pfc. Ramil Akiatan, Je-ar Sumagang, Nasser Adian, Samuel Quinones at Cpl. Carlos Baguio. Sakay ang mga ito ng 3 truck at pabalik sa kanilang kampo ng pasabugan ng mga rebelde ang kanilang sasakyan at saka pinaulanan ng mga bala.

Natigil lamang ang labanan ng tumakas ang Abu Sayyaf dahil sa paparating na reinforcement ng militar.

Naganap ang atake kasabay ng pagbisita naman ni Armed Forces chief General Gregorio Catapang, kasama si Western Mindanao Command chief General Rustico Guerrero. Binisita ng mga ito ang mga tropa sa Sulu at saka nagbigay pugay kay Gov. Totoh Tan at Vice Gov. Sakur Tan na kung saan ay nag-usap ang mga ito ukol sa kasalukuyang peace and development efforts ng lalawigan at suporta ng mga opisyal sa militar.

Walang ibinigay na anumang pahayag si Sulu police chief Abraham Orbita ukol sa naganap at hindi rin nito sinasagot ang tawag ng mga mamamahayag at kadalasan ay nagtatago sa media. Sa pahayag naman ng Western Mindanao Command, sinabi ni Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela, ang spokeswoman ng militar, na umabot sa 80 ang nakasagupa ng mga tropa sa Patikul.

Mula Sulu, nagtungo naman ang grupo ni Catapang sa 6th Infantry Division sa Maguindanao na kung saan ay ginawaran nito ng medalya ang mga sundalong sumagip sa Special Action Force commandos na tinambangan ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front at Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters sa bayan ng Mamasapano noon Enero 25. Umabot sa 44 ang nasawing commandos sa atake ng mga rebelde matapos na mapatay ng SAF si Malaysian bomber Marwan sa loob mismo ng teritoryo ng MILF. (Mindanao Examiner)
