ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two civilians were injured when one of two highway robbers exploded a grenade late Tuesday while escaping from security forces in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines. The two men were captured, officials said.
Inspector Salvador Galvez said the two robbers – Carlos Lanlangit and Reynald Maliza – were captured in Licomo village after a chase. He said a .45-caliber pistol was also seized from the men who held up a provincial bus near Manguso village.
He said the bus, owned by Rural Transit Mindanao, was heading to Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province, when the two men who posed as passengers, announced the heist and collected valuables and money from other passengers.
“They were arrested during a chase, but not after they exploded a grenade that wounded two civilians in the village,” Galvez told e-Media television in an interview.
He said both men are residents of Licomo village and being investigated by the police if they were also involved in other highway robberies in Zamboanga. (Mindanao Examiner)
