CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Government troops arrested 3 suspected communist rebels tagged as among those that torched 7 trucks and ambushed a police patrol in Bukidnon province in southern Philippines, an army spokesman said on Tuesday.
Col. Romeo Brawner, of the Eastern Mindanao Command, said three men – Henry Omandam, 19; Vergel Pitogo, 23; and John Rey Flores, 16 – were arrested after civilians tipped off the military about their presence in Palacapao village in Quezon town.
He said soldiers also seized a landmine and one M203 ammunition from the three New People’s Army rebels, who were handed over to the police for further investigation.
The NPA has been waging a separatist war for many decades now and previous peace talks with Manila had failed due to demands by rebels to free all jailed members and political prisoners, among others. (Mindanao Examiner)
