
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 26, 2014) – Police have recovered a grenade and fuse assembly for a howitzer and illuminating mortar in separate areas in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Monday.
Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega, a regional police spokesman, said members of the local bomb squad recovered the fuse assembly near the Philippine Transitional Site for Tuberculosis in the village of Upper Calarian.
He the police also recovered the grenade from a bag wrapped in packing tape at Sitio Mountain View in Sinubong village.
“Immediately the team rendered safe procedure and the recovered UXOs were brought to Bomb Squad Office for proper disposition,” Ortega said.
UXO refers to unexploded ordnance.
Ortega said civilians discovered the UXOs and reported it the police. (Mindanao Examiner)
