Letters to the Editor – An Elephant in a Room

Chief Editor March 31, 2015
Letters to the Editors

Dear Editor,

THIS is a straight- to-the-point response to the Eastern Mindanao Command of the AFP on their pronouncement which vilify lumad groups. We condemn the AFP-fabricated and instigated charges against IP leaders, human rights defenders and activists. The charges are desperate acts to silence us.

AFP’s accusation that lumad groups had only prompted the evacuation of the lumads in Agusan Del Sur, are like broken disc, it is repetitious and comparable to an allegory that never happened. But above all, it is a predator’s attempt to turn the table against its prey.

Massive evacuations in the hinterlands, in history and in reality, are due to massive military operations of the government troops against communities and people who are labelled by the AFP as ‘enemies of the states’. The disdainful attitude towards civilians is a display of the fascist and arrogant character of AFP which infringe the essence of civilian supremacy.

The long list of victims, the thousands of evacuees, are living witness to these attacks.

The lumads and peasants are bearing the brunt of poverty but they are not foolish people like what the AFP would want them to look when they said, “they were only instigated to evacuate”.

The AFPs human rights violations and the proxy war they are leading using the paramilitary groups are too obvious.

AFPs propaganda are coated with lies and deception it intend to cover their crimes and save this rotten government from its complete isolation to the people. Their war targeting national minorities and peasant communities aggravates poverty and hardship of our people. It is a crime fueled from our taxes. These are acts similar to a vulture who feeds itself from a decaying flesh.

AFPs warmonger character is not surprising, it is how they survive. After all, militarization spells money for high echelons of the AFP. The massive and systemic corruptions in the AFP and in the whole government and its human rights violations, are elephants in a room, it cannot be ignored.

Fool yourselves but spare us because we will fight back against AFP’s abusive acts.
