DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 24, 2014) – A prisoner allegedly killed himself inside a cell he shared with other inmates in the town of Manukan in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines.
Jail guard Rafael Bimbo Gablines told police that Rolly Layong, 37, hanged himself with a nylon cord inside the cell’s comfort room. He said other inmates discovered the suicide.
He said a jail nurse tried to resuscitate Layong, but failed to bring him back to life and eventually rushed him to the hospital, bud doctors declared the prisoner dead.
Layong was accused of attempted murder, Gablines said.
It was unknown if Layong’s family would ask for an investigation into the incident to determine if he was murdered or not. (Mindanao Examiner)
