Chinese seaman linked to twin murders is killed

Chief Editor April 21, 2015

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A Chinese seaman who killed two of his crew members was himself murdered and his body had been recovered on a remote island in southern Philippines, reports said Monday.

Wu Xing Yong’s decomposing body was found by Filipino fishermen on Languyan Island in Tawi-Tawi province where his ship, MV Qing (or Quing) May, had made a pass before heading to Majishan in China from Zamboanga City.

Yong – who hid in the ship – was believed killed by other seamen and his body thrown out of the ship near the island.

Yong had killed Zhang Wenju, 35, the chief cook; and Engineer Xie Zhichao. A third sailor Engineer Liao Shiguo, 49, was seriously wounded by Yong, who hid in the ship as its captain, Shengbo Wang, radioed the local Coast Guard before dawn and sought emergency medical evacuation of the injured sailor.

Coast Guard commander Jimmy Berbo said the Liberian-flag ship had 25 crew members and carrying iron ore from its last port call in Walcott, Australia and heading to the port of Majishan near Hangzhou in China when it radioed for medical assistance off the village of Sinunuc near Caldera point on April 12.
