- Mayor Beng Climaco raises a new point during the Senate Hearing on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law Wednesday “under the 1976 Tripoli Agreement, 13 provinces were identified, including all the cities and villages situated in these areas- the city of Zamboanga included. This provision is totally unacceptable to the City of Zamboanga.”
- The information caravan organized by the Communications Working Group under the Early Recovery and Reconstruction structure, with support from The Asia Foundation kicked off Wednesday, June 3 in Masepla, Mampang with the Code of Policies on Z3R Beneficiary Selection and its Implementing Rules and Regulations as the focus of discussion. Over 1,000 internally displaced persons coming from Masepla 1, 2 and 3 transitory sites participated in the caravan. On Thursday, June 4 at 2pm, the caravan will visit the Taluksangay transitory site which houses 179 families.
- The Disaster Risk Reduction sector of ACF International organized a 3-day (May 6-8) Training of Trainers on Disaster Preparedness to BDRRMC for 6 barangays which aims to enhance capabilities of the BLGUs on preparedness and response. Technical resource speakers from Department of National Defense- Office of the Civil Defense (DND-OCD) Region 9, Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office- Emergency Medical Technician (ZCDRRMO-EMT) and Bureau of Fire Protection were invited to give inputs on Search, Rescue and Retrieval Operations, Basic Life Support, and Fire Safety and Fire Fighting respectively. The training also highlighted the vital role of WASH in emergencies.
- In support to the key strategic activities of the Education and Social Services and Governance and Rule of Law sectors under the Early Recovery and Reconstruction (ERC) structure for the Zamboanga response, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) will jointly conduct a workshop purposely to identify timely and appropriate interventions on legal, social and protection needs of IDPs, the prevailing protection issues in displacement areas (evacuation centre, transitory sites, home-based) and permanent settlement sites and the needed support by IDPs in pursuing durable solutions. The workshop is set on Monday, June 8, starting at 8am at the Grand Astoria Hotel.
- Fifty-five (55) IDP camp leaders supported by their respective camp leaders attended the two-days (May 14-15) training on Family Disaster Preparedness. Technical resource speakers from Department of National Defense- Office of the Civil Defense (DND-OCD) Region 9, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Red Cross gave inputs on the risk profile of Zamboanga, basic fire safety, and basic life support. The activity was graced by Dr. Leonida Bayan of CSWDO. Part of the training, the camp leaders were given inputs on water treatment, water conservation, food handling, and maintenance of WASH facilities; all to avoid outbreak of water-borne diseases.
- ACF International supports the initiative of the City Health Office and City Social Welfare and Development Office in the conduct of simultaneous clean-up drive to prevent outbreak and mitigate the effects of WASH-related diseases. ACF through the generous support of UNICEF and AECID provided cleaning materials to CCCM in all Transitory Sites during the simultaneous clean-up drive held May 20.
