Zamboanga City Government News Bits – June 11, 2015
- Mayor Beng Climaco Wednesday mobilized government resources to respond/assist to the needs of Taluksangay residents who were affected by the “ipo-ipo” (whirlwind). Initial report from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) says that 48 families including internally displaced persons (IDPs) were hit by the weather-related incident. The CDRRMO and the CSWDO distributed food packs and relief goods.
- The 3-day Workshop on Contingency Planning organized by the CDRRMO culminates Thursday, June 11 with Undersecretary Alexander Pama of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as keynote speaker. Human-induced calamities (worst case scenario) is the focus of the workshop and is attended by all sectors in the city to include military, police and other law enforcement units, government agencies, non-government organizations, civil society organizations, barangays, academe and all stakeholders. It is held at the Royce Convention in Astoria Hotel.
- Zamboanga City takes pride in the victory of two Zamboangueno athletes who won gold medals in the 28th SEA Games being held in Singapore—Billiards player Chezka Centeno won the gold in the Women’s singles 9-ball event and Eumir Felix Marcial hauled a gold medal in the Boxing Welterweight Division.
- Mayor Beng Climaco has issued an executive order instructing the City Vice Mayor, City Department Heads and all concerned the payment of the employees’ Productivity Incentive for 2015 starting June 18. This is pursuant to the issuance of Executive Order 181 dated May 15, 2015 of President Benigno Aquino III. Under the EO, the requirements state that the PEI shall be charged against city funds for fiscal year 2015, subject to the Personnel Services limitation and the local government unit obtained a rating of Good Financial Housekeeping (formerly the Seal of Good Housekeeping) component of the fiscal year 2014 seal of Good Local Governance.
- Zamboanga City joins the nation in the observance of the 117th Independence Day on Friday, June 12. The commemorative activities in Zamboanga will kick off at 8am with a flag raising ceremony at Plaza Rizal fronting City Hall with Mayor Climaco leading the activity. All agencies- government and non-government including the educational institutions, academe and the barangay sectors are invited to participate in the event.
- The City Finance Committee will conduct a Budget Forum Thursday, June 11 at the Astoria Hotel in preparation for the 2016 Executive Budget. During the forum, the committee is expected to issue guidelines/instructions necessary in the preparation of the budget. The forum will be attended by the Vice mayor, department heads, the City Council, heads of technical vocational schools and others concerned.
- The City Development Council Wednesday approved the P2.8 billion Annual Investment Plan of the City Government. The AIP is a 3-year long term, medium term and immediate plan for Zamboanga City that has been approved through consultations with the barangay officials, civil society organizations, non-government organizations, including the security sector in the presence of the elected officials and department heads.
- Some 1,058 internally displaced persons (IDPs) received relevant information on the beneficiary selection and awarding process of the permanent housing of the Z3R plan in the information caravans conducted in six different transitory sites this week. Spearheaded by the Communications Working Group with support from USAID – The Asia Foundation, the Information Caravan is an initiative to provide timely and accurate information to IDP communities to prevent misinformation and confusion. For its third wave, the Information Caravan, the latest of which was held Wednesday morning at the Rio Hondo Transitory Site, will focus primarily on the regulations and procedures outlined in the Code of Policies for Beneficiary Selection. This is in preparation for the impending transfer of IDPs to their permanent homes under the Z3R plan. The schedule for the last 3 info caravans is as follows:

June 13 at 9am -home based IDPs (east coast cluster) at Centro Latino
June 16 at 2pm- Asinan, Kasanyangan (Kasanyangan barangay Hall)
