ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – Police said it detained a man who allegedly tried to rape a 5-year old girl in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Norte.
Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman, said the 32-year old Christopher Gibanggibang was handed over to the police by school workers who rescued the girl in Sindangan town.
Samuddin said the workers heard the girl’s scream for help and saw the man trying to pull down the victim’s pants. The girl said she was waiting for her friends when the man suddenly embraced her tightly.
He said the suspect works as a pedicab driver in the town. He is facing criminal charges, according to Samuddin. (Mindanao Examiner)
