ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examienr / Apr. 22, 2014) – A man who ran amuck was shot and wounded after he knifed a policeman who tried to disarm him inside a shopping mall in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Tuesday.
Inspector Dahlan Samuddin a regional police spokesman said the wounded cop, SPO2 Francisco Enot, was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the face and shoulder by the 23-year Ronnie Dagodog late Monday afternoon inside the Gateway Mall.
Dagodog was shot by Senior Insp. Jade Mandi to save Enot from being killed by Dagodog, a native of Tampilisan town in Zamboanga del Norte province.
Samuddin said the man took a kitchen knife at the 4th floor of the mall and went berserk, sending shoppers scampering for safety. Enot, who is assigned at the traffic section of the local police, and Mandi who were both outside the mall, responded to the commotion and tried to convince Dagodog to surrender peacefully.
Enot, who was trying to prevent the man from getting away, grabbed the knife from Dagodog, but he had been stabbed.
The wounded attacker was also rushed to a separate hospital where he is being guarded closely by policemen. It was unknown why Dagodog ran amuck. Police did not say whether Dagodog was only visiting Zamboanga or has been residing here. (Mindanao Examiner)
