The ceremony was held at the Royale Chulan Hotel and also attended by Philippine Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, who cited the proficient skills of Filipino professionals and workers, who have contributed much to the vibrancy of both the Malaysian and Philippine economies.
Bestowed plaques of commendation by Ambassador Malaya and Labor Attache Elizabeth Marie Estrada were Resorts World Genting (Genting Malaysia Bhd), Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd, MMC Oil & Gas Sdn Bhd, iTac MSC Outsourcing Sdn Bhd, Jabil Circuit Sdn Bhd, Infineon Technologies (Kulim) Sdn Bhd, AIG Shared Services (M) Sdn Bhd, Encora Technologies Sdn Bhd, Renesas Semiconductor KL Sdn, Schlumberger Business Support Hub Sdn Bhd, KNM Process System Sdn Bhd, Technip Geoproduction Sdn Bhd, and Sapura Kenchana HL Sdn Bhd.
“Under Philippine laws, the protection of our migrant workers is of paramount importance and a national policy. In relation to work migration, it is our stated principle that the possession of skills is the highest form of protection. The awarding of recognition certificates to some of you this morning is part of our incentives and rewards system for compliant principals and employers,” Baldoz said.
Malaya, for his part, said: People are a nation’s best resource, and so it is with companies. Employees are a company’s best asset. Deal with them fairly, and they will give you back a hundred fold in terms of productivity and loyalty.”
“These companies have not only benefited much from their engagement of Filipino professionals and skilled workers but also have been our steadfast partners in safeguarding the rights and welfare of their workers. We are recognizing them today, with the hope that other employers would follow their good examples,” he added.
Malaya said the awardees will also compose the short-list of nominees for Malaysia for the ministerial-level and presidential level awards for model employers, which will be announced later this year in Manila.
“Filipino workers around the world are well regarded because of their competence, hard work, English proficiency, and positive work ethic. We are glad that Malaysian companies have seen their exemplary value,” he said.
He said the companies were chosen based on their track record on employee protection and welfare promotion. They also have programs on employee welfare and have no complaints pending against them. Numerous Filipino workers in Malaysia are in the services, IT, engineering, entertainment and teaching sectors. (Mindanao Examiner)
