
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 9, 2014)- Some P200,000 in bounty money have been raised by politicians and a media group for the arrest of the gunman who murdered a female journalist in the Philippines.
The 52-year old victim, Rubie Garcia, was shot several times inside his house in Bacoor City in Cavite province on April 6. Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla offered P100,000 reward and another P50,000 from Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla.
Media group Alab ng Mamamahayag also raised P50,000 reward for anybody who can provide information about the killers and the mastermind in the murder of Garcia, who was a correspondent for daily tabloid Remate and leader of the ALAM in Cavite.
ALAM Chairman Jerry Yap said: “Maliit na pera ang P50,000 pero sana’y makatutulong ito para magkalakas-loob ang mga may nalalaman sa kaso.” (It’s a small amount, but we hope this reward can convince those who information about the murder.)
Yap said they are disgusted by how the government is dealing with the unabated attacks on journalists in the country.
Police said a dedicated team has been deployed to track down those behind the killing of Garcia. (With a report from Nanet Villafania)
