SULTAN KUDARAT – Police said a grenade exploded before dawn Monday on a village in President Quirino town in the southern Philippine province of Sultan Kudarat.
Police said there was no casualty in the explosion which occurred near the house of Juanita Villalino. The blast sent shrapnel flying that hit the house, it said.
Village chieftain Sancho Salamanca has confirmed the blast and said police were investigating the explosion and that the grenade’s safety lever had been recovered in the area.
The motive of the attack is still unknown, but two explosions were reported in the area just last month. The blasts were both the house of former police official, Dioniso Coloma, Jr. and his younger brother Salamanca.
President Quirino Mayor Azel Mangudadatu ordered police to tighten security in the town to prevent similar attacks in the future. (Rose Muneza)
