
DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 5, 2014) – Members of the women rights’ group Gabriela picketed in front of the office of the Commission on Human Rights in Davao City in southern Philippines to seek justice for victim of human rights in the country.
The picketers also held interpretive dance to express their disgust over the unabated extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearance and violations of women’s’ rights.
Some of those who joined the picket carried placards denouncing the government’s anti-insurgency campaign that had killed innocent civilians.
Two picketers were spotted carrying placards seeking justice for the brutal murder of Rebelyn Pitao, daughter of communist rebel chieftain Leoncio Pitao who was found dead in Davao del Norte province on March 5, 2009; and Benjaline Hernandez, killed in North Cotabato’s Arakan town on April 5, 2002.
Gabriela demanded an end to all forms of violence against women. (Mindanao Examiner)
