2 Filipinos dead, 3 others wounded in Doha blast

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 27, 2014) – A gas explosion at a Turkish restaurant in Doha, Qatar has killed at least 12 people, among them two Filipino migrant workers, Al Jazeera reported.

It said Thursday’s explosion also wounded over 30 people, including three Filipinos, after the powerful blast ripped through the restaurant near a
“Another 32 were injured, three of them critically, QNA reported. At least three of those reported injured are from the Philippines, and two of them are in the intensive care unit of Hamad Hospital, a representative of the Philippine Embassy in Doha told Al Jazeera.”

“The same source also told Al Jazeera that two migrant workers from the Philippines are confirmed dead. The two fatalities reportedly worked as staff of a store next to the restaurant, where the explosion happened,” Al Jazeera said.

QNA refers to Qatar News Agency. The Qatari broadcaster also quoted Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khleifi, the public security chief, as saying that a gas tank had caught fire before it exploded. “It was a huge explosion,” he said.

The identities of the Filipinos were not immediately known and the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs has not issued any statement about them too. (Mindanao Examiner)
