ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 12, 2014) – One civilian was wounded with a stray bullet on Wednesday in Zamboanga City after gunmen opened fire on a policeman, but missed their target, police said.
Police said Guillermo Rojas was rushed to hospital by medical workers who responded to the emergency in the village of Talon-Talon where the gunmen tried to kill PO2 Ricky Mahalail, who was then travelling alone.
Mahalail, who is assigned on the Zamboanga island of Sacol, has identified two of his attackers and tagged them as behind the killing of a Catholic priest many years ago. But Mahalail did not give details on his accusation or the motive behind the attack.
“I have no blood debts here in Zamboanga, but I know two of my attackers and they were behind the murder of a priest many years ago. They are native of Sulu,” he said, referring to his attackers.
He said the gunmen were in a red car and armed with automatic rifles and police investigators recovered more than two dozen bullet casings from the area.
Police launched an operation to track down the attackers. The attack was believed connected to a feud. (Mindanao Examiner)
