A fire has broken out at the glitzy Ritz Carlton hotel in Paris which is undergoing renovation.
Police have advised Parisians to avoid the area near the hotel, describing the fire as large in a Tweet.
“Firefighters are at the scene and working to contain the fire,” a police official told ABC News. “It started in the early hours of Tuesday in the attic,” the official said, adding there were no casualties reported so far.
“At the moment, it is very unlikely that the fire will spread or that the ceiling will collapse,” a spokesperson for Paris fire department said.
The hotel, located in the high end area of Place Vendome, is where Princess Diana spent her final hours before dying in a car crash in 1997.
Owned by the billionaire businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed, the hotel is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation and is due to fully reopen later this year after nearly four years of renovations.(LOUISE DEWAST)
