ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 8, 2014) – Gunmen killed a village chieftain and wounded another official in an ambush in Buug town in Zamboanga Sibugay province in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said Wiliro Elisan, village chieftain of Santa Cruz in neighboring Diplahan town, was fatally shot, while his companion Juanito Encallado, the village treasurer, is wounded in the attack. The two officials were on a motorcycle driven by Reynaldo Baldicasa, a village councilman, when gunmen who were tailing them on another motorcycle, attacked them.
Baldicasa was unhurt in the ambush, police said, adding the two ambushers fled after the attack.
Police investigators recovered 7 bullet casing of 9mm pistol in the area. They also recovered a .45-caliber pistol of the slain village chieftain. The motive of the ambush is still unknown, but police are investigating the attack. (Mindanao Examiner)
