ZAMBOANGA CITY – A huge fire hit a commercial building on Monday destroying a movie house, a shopping store and several establishments and private offices in downtown Zamboanga, officials said.
Mayor Beng Climaco, who was at the fire scene, said she ordered an investigation into the fire that lasted over 5 hours. She said there were no reports of casualties. “Thank God that there is no single casualty in the fire. The Fire Bureau is investigating this,” she told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
The fire consumed the Viva Theater and UniSales Department Store along Mayor Manuel Jaldon Street. The blaze reached “general alarm” which prompted other fire stations and private fire fighters to help put out the fire.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but initial reports said the damage to the blaze could run into millions of pesos. (Ely Dumaboc)
