The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has decided to recommend the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo’s Ueno Park and other buildings designed by Le Corbusier as sites to be included in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage list.
ICOMOS in Paris notified the Japanese government of its decision on Tuesday.
The museum’s main building was designed by Le Corbusier, a master of modern architecture who was based in Paris. The museum opened in 1959.
The recommendation will be finalized in July at the meeting of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in Turkey.(The Japan News)
