
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 3, 2013) – A village chieftain in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur narrowly escaped death after gunmen strafed his house with automatic weapons, police said Thursday.
Police said the armed men opened fire on the house of Leopoldo Selada in the village of Nuboran in Labangan town.
The assailants escaped after the shooting. Selada said he was sleeping alone in the house when the attack occurred.
He told police investigators that he hid in the house as the gunmen opened fire and reported the matter after the assailants escaped.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack, but police said it is investigating the shooting.
Police said investigators recovered at least 11 bullet casings of M16 rifle.
The attack occurred ahead of village elections this month. (Mindanao Examiner)
