NORTH COTABATO (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 27, 2013) – Security forces have been deployed Friday in the town of Kabacan in North Cotabato province after suspected rebels toppled a steel pylon that caused a power outage over a huge area in the southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the blast late Thursday damaged the transmission line of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines in the village of Kayaga.
The toppled pylon affected electricity supply in the provinces of North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the latest attack, but rebels had previously blasted transmission lines and power pylons in central Mindanao.
Soldiers have been deployed in the area to help protect power facility against future attacks. (Geonarri Solmerano and Rafael Abellera)
