
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 26, 2013) – Police arrested a teenager who passed himself off as a rebel commander and demanded money from a trader in Sindangan town in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines.
Officials said the 17-year old Richard Ferolino was nabbed by policemen in an undercover operation and is now being interrogated.
Ferolino allegedly used the alias Omar Katin, who claimed to be a leader of the New People’s Army, in sending his letter to the victim, who immediately contacted the police.
Police set up an operation and eventually arrested Ferolino, but two of his cohorts managed to escape.
Ferolino also stabbed one of the officers with a double-bladed knife, but it hit the policeman’s body armor.
Officials Ferolino, a resident of Lawis village, also in Sindangan, is currently being investigated by the police. (Mindanao Examiner)
