ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 23, 2013) – Police arrested a suspected rebel on a village in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines as skirmishes between military and rebel forces continued on Monday, officials said.

Officials said the rebel was arrested near where a projectile hit a house in Tetuan village and killed an old woman and wounded a couple. It was unknown whether the rebel was behind the rocket attack, whose victims were among those who volunteered to help feed refugees and soldiers in the frontlines.

Two people were also wounded in four separate grenade attacks in Tetuan and Tugbungan villages. It was unknown who fired the rifle grenades.

Authorities earlier shot and killed a man and arrested another who tried to grab the rifle of a policeman in Tetuan. A third man managed to escape on a motorcycle.

Police investigators said they recovered several identification cards with different names from the slain man. It was not immediately known whether the dead man was a member of the Moro National Liberation Front that took part in simultaneous attacks in Zamboanga on September 9. (Mindanao Examiner)
