DAVAO CITY – Filipino authorities have rescued four Korean nationals, including a minor, from a Korean pastor of a Christian ministry working in southern Philippines, local media reports said on Saturday.
ABS-CBN television reported that Pastor Roh Won-pyung had brought the four – three of them sisters – to Davao City from South Korea purportedly to learn English here. The pastor is now being by immigration agents after it was discovered that he is illegally staying here.
Filipino authorities mounted the rescue in coordination with the Korean Embassy in Manila and tracked down the four victims in a house in Dona Vicenta village.
The mother of three Korean sisters insisted the women were kidnapped by the pastor, who denied all accusations against him and he told Filipino investigators that they came voluntarily to Davao City in November to help in his missionary works.
The report also said that the pastor told the sisters that they cannot return home because South Korea is now at war with North Korea and it would be safer to stay in Davao. (Mindanao Examiner)
