
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 17, 2013) – Philippine authorities on Saturday said at least 28 people had died from the collision of a ferry and a cargo ship off central Philippine province of Cebu.
The collision between the ferry MV Thomas Aquinas and the cargo ship MV Sulpicio Express occurred late Friday near Talisay City. The ferry eventually sank and authorities said as many as 800 people were onboard.
Hundreds has been saved since Friday night by rescuers and fishermen as authorities continue to search for the missing passengers.
The ferry, which originated from the southern Philippines, was heading to the pier when it collided with the other ship. Fishing boats in the area have joined the search and rescue operations. (Mindanao Examiner)
