MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / July 29, 2013) – Filipino bloggers are expected to flock the 2nd Laguna Blogging Summit 2013 which will be held on October 15-16 at the Cultural Center of Laguna in the town of Santa Cruz.
This would be the second time that Laguna will host the event. Organizers said the summit will bring experts and notable speakers who are successful in their fields and advocating information.
This year’s theme dubbed “Social Revolutionist,” organizers said.
“People are not only using social media to promote their products or services or just to hook up with their friends; they are also using it for political campaigns, advocacies and even finding a job. Social media revolution is happening and we can see people gathering like-minded individuals to form a group with same beliefs and with the use of social platforms like Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn and continuing it offline,” Engr. Grace Bondad Nicolas, the lead organizer of this event, said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
Nicolas said there are many professionals and advocacy groups which are benefiting from social media platforms. “We are bringing these experts to Laguna and we are hoping my fellow Lagueno will learn from them,” she said.
She said some 700 attendees are expected to gather at the summit.
“This year, we added a new set of speakers and one of them is Carlos Celdran, who is the new Manila Chief of Tourism, and we are expecting that he will share his knowledge, expertise and experience of the effectiveness of social media in promoting tourism and advocacy,” Nicolas said.
Other notable speakers who are supporting the event include Janette Toral, Alvin Cloyd Dakis, James Jimenez, Art Samaniego, Jr., Randell Tiongson, Pocholo De Leon Gonzales, Lloyd Luna and Eyriche Cortez, among others.
“There’s nothing more remarkable gesture these days than seeing collaborative efforts in the flesh that made 1Labs possible. In a generation where Internet is no longer a source of pleasure but a source of information that can improve the lives of those who use it, such an event is commendable. 1Labs was a gathering of like-minded individuals whose passion for innovation is core and commitment to move the people closer to the wonder of technologies is evident,” said motivational blogger and speaker, and noted author Lloyd Luna. “1LABS was a blast. I learned so much from both the speakers and the participants that I think this should be a model of social media engagement for other local governments to follow. To make a long story short, I can’t wait for the next one,” James Jimenez, of the Commission on Elections, said.
Aming the individuals and companies also supporting the summit are Laguna Governor Jeorge “ER” Ejercito, his Chief of Staff Carlos Dolendo, Philippine Red Cross Assistant Secretary General Neil Andrew Nocon, Gardenia Bakers Philippines Inc., Air Asia, Commission on Elections, Café Lupe, 100 Miles Cafe, Cafe De Bonifacio, Oriang, Greenwich, Mac Carranz International Corp, Melbas Farm, Andrew Grace Home Builders, Casa Alegria Condotel, Galileia Events Place, Zoomanity Group, Kliping Times, socialscene.ph, wheninmanila.com, The Tribune Post, Wazzup Pilipinas, Blog-ph.com, Ronda Balita, Manila Channel and Magic Expose.
