
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 22, 2013) – Police arrested a village official who was carrying a hand grenade during a routine inspection Monday at a checkpoint in the town of Siocon in the southern Philippine province if Zamboanga del Norte, officials.
Officials identified the 38-year old man as Jainuddin Burio, who was flagged down by police chief Kiram Jimlani along the highway in the village called Manaol.
Burio, a councilman in the village of Balatakan in the neighboring town of Sirawai, was driving an unlicensed motorcycle when stopped at the checkpoint.
Officials said the grenade was hidden in the utility box under the seat of the motorcycle. It was not immediately known why Burio was carrying the grenade.
Police detained Burio as criminal charges are being prepared against him.(Mindanao Examiner)
