2 men linked to kidnapping arrested in Zambo Norte

Chief Editor November 19, 2017

PAGADIAN CITY – Police authorities are holding 2 natives of Cebu province after being implicated in the alleged kidnapping of a son of a town mayor in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the duo – Jimmy Marabaol, 36, and Raydes Sabandeja, 60, – were traveling in a pickup truck when intercepted by the police at a checkpoint at dawn Friday in the village of Punta in Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte.

The information was only released by the police on Sunday because of the continuing investigation on the suspects. They are being linked by witnesses and a police informant to the September kidnapping of Jelster Ed Quimbo, son of Zamboanga del Norte’s Labason town Mayor Eddie Quimbo, according to Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, the regional police spokesperson.

“The duo conspired and assisted in the kidnapping of Jelster Ed T. Quimbo. They were positively identified by witnesses and a confidential informant,” she said, adding, policemen manning the checkpoint also recovered from the duo some P500,000 and two hand grenades, including a gun.

The arrest of Marabaol and Sabandeja came barely two months after police also detained and file criminal charges against Soudi Banguih, 36; and Edilberto Albino, 61, in connection to the kidnapping. Both men were arrested in Sirawai town in Zamboanga del Norte.

Quimbo’s family did not release any statement on the latest arrest, but the victim is still being held captive and his fate remains unknown. (Mindanao Examiner)
