PCOO accused of not paying media propaganda

Chief Editor December 16, 2017

DAVAO CITY – Several newspaper companies in Mindanao have accused the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) of failing to pay several of its “advertorial” running into thousands of pesos since the middle of this year.

Two sources who were privy to the dealings alleged that a consultant of PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar assembled a group of newspaper publishers and editors to help out in promoting the government official.

Each newspaper company was promised P1,000 for a PCOO advertisement that is designed to look like a news article about Andanar and one of them was when he was conferred the “Distinguished Alumnus Award” by the Federation University of Australia early this year.

According to sources, there were more newspaper companies from Visayas and Luzon which were also offered the same deals, and PCOO also failed to pay them for a still unknown reason.

PCOO also offered media executives to become consultants and publish advertorial on Andanar in exchange for at least P8,000 a month on top of the P1,000 per published news article about him. But this was turned down by media firms following PCOO’s failure to pay its outstanding advertorial fees and for only using them to promote Andanar. It was unknown whether Andanar would seek an elective post in the 2019 mid-term elections in the country.

There was no immediate reaction from Andanar, but his consultant has repeatedly apologized for PCOO. In October, PCOO asked media companies to submit their news clippings on Andanar and an official receipt with the promise of paying them, but this too had failed. (Mindanao Examiner)
