ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 1, 2013) – At least 11 people were wounded in a grenade attack Monday on a government bus service in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga, police said.

Police said a man lobbed the grenade as the bus owned by Philippine Fisheries Development Authority passed the village of Tetuan to pick up employees.

“We are still investigating the motive of the attack,” said Chief Inspector Elmer Acuña, commander of the local police force.

Those wounded were rushed by ambulances to hospital. At least 5 of them suffered severe shrapnel wounds, although not life-threatening.

Police investigators said they recovered grenade fragments at the rear section of the bus and were trying to reconstruct them together to determine the type of explosive used in the attack.

But one police explosives expert said an MK2 was likely the type of grenade used by the attacker.

No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack and police would not speculate on who was behind it. (Mindanao Examiner)
