ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY (Mindanao Examiner / June 29, 2013) – A father has narrowly escaped an attempt by a lone gunman to kill him, but his six-month old baby was shot and wounded in the attack in southern Philippines, police said Saturday.

Police said the gunman, who sneaked from an opened window of Roberto Pretila’s house in Ali Alsree village in R.T. Lim town and shot him, but missed. The gunman escaped, but Pretila’s baby was wounded in the shooting.

Pretila told the police the bullet that missed him hit the baby who was sleeping in the crib in another room. The infant was rushed to hospital, he said.

It was not immediately known if Pretila has identified his attacker, but police said an investigation is going on to determine the motive of the shooting.

No individual has claimed responsibility for the shooting, but killings and gun attacks are a daily occurrence in the province. (Mindanao Examiner)
