Philippine commandos capture widow of Malaysian terrorist

Chief Editor February 25, 2018

COTABATO CITY – Police commandos have captured the Filipino wife of slain Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Abdhir in Lanao del Norte province in southern Philippines.

Joromee Dongon was tracked down at her hideout in the town of Tubod where she was arrested along with 2 others, according to the police. Commandos also seized a hand gun and fragmentation grenade, including blasting caps and detonating cords from the trio.

Police provided no details of the operation and the military was also silent on the capture of Abdhir’s widow or her role in terrorist attacks her husband had carried out alongside the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in the troubled region.

Abdhir, alias Marwan, was killed in a clandestine police operation in January 2015 in Maguindanao’s Mamasapano town. But 44 police commandos belonging to the Special Action Force were also killed by rebels and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters who tried to rescue Abdhir, whose hideout was inside a sprawling MILF camp in the town.

The MILF, which harbored and protected Abdhir, refused to surrender those involved in the killings of the police commandos, although it returned to the government several specialized weapons it seized from the slain Special Action Force members. (With a report from Rhoderick Beñez)
