MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Mat 30, 2013) – A court in the United Arab Emirates has acquitted a Filipina household worker accused of molesting three children under her ward in Dubai, the Philippine Consulate General said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
The Philippines welcomed the judgment handed down by the Dubai First Instance Court declaring Mariam Kusain Abdullah innocent of the child molestation charges filed against her last year.
The court cited insufficiency of evidence as the reason for the acquittal.
The woman was accused by her employers of molesting their children ages one, six, and seven, who were all under her care. Her case was the subject of numerous news reports both in the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates and caused a stir when it was reported that capital punishment was being sought.
The Consulate General’s Assistance to Nationals Section, which constantly monitored the case since its filing, engaged the services of Dar Al Bayan Advocates and Legal Consultants to represent the woman, who was also supported by her recruitment agency, Forsan Gulf Labor Supply.
The Consulate General and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Dubai said it will extend all appropriate assistance to the woman until her repatriation.
