2 killed, 29 injured in Zamboanga road mishap

Chief Editor June 10, 2018

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two people were killed and over 2 dozen others injured when a car collided head on with a passenger bus on Sunday in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.

Police said the car was being driven by Arquiza Escosio, 29. He and his passenger, Emeryl Baird, 29, were both killed in the accident in Tungawan town.

Escosio and Baird were heading to the town of Ipil while the bus, operated by Rural Transit of Mindanao, was on its way to Zamboanga City when the car collided with the bus on the highway’s blind curve. The impact was so strong that the bus driver, Gene Roso, 48, lost control of the wheel and hit the road’s guard rail and landed on its side.

Roso and his 28 passengers sustained minor injuries, and two of them – Ana Alterado, 19, and a native of Davao City; and Lolita Alterado were both rushed to hospital in Zamboanga for further medical treatment. Their condition remains unknown. (Mindanao Examiner)
