ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 8, 2013) – Two motorcycle gunmen shot and seriously wounded a government teacher in a daring attack Wednesday in the troubled southern Filipino city of Zamboanga, police said.
Police said the gunmen were tailing Maria Dolores Ong, 57, who was in tricycle with her three-year old granddaughter and then shot her near Estrada Street in the village of Tetuan after overtaking the vehicle.
The gunmen fled after shooting Ong in the face and body. Ong, who teaches at the Zamboanga City High School Main, was rushed to hospital and is now being guarded by the police.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the failed murder, but police are searching for a former policeman, who had previously threatened to kill Ong over the victim’s failure to pay her debts to his wife who is into money lending business.
Police said the man previously confronted Ong in the school and slapped her face after he failed to collect money from here. Ong informed her fellow teachers and family to tell the police about the man’s threats should anything bad happen to her. (Mindanao Examiner)
