PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao / May 5, 2013) – Philippine authorities filed criminal charges against the ambushers of a southern Philippine mayor and police and military launched a manhunt against the attackers.

Gunmen ambushed the political convoy Mayor Abdulmalik Manamparan, of Lanao del Norte’s Nunungan town, killing at least a dozen people in what authorities said was linked to a long time feud.

Among those killed was Adnanie Manamparan , the mayor’s daughter. The politician was among eight people also wounded in last month’s attack that occurred in the village of Malaig where they campaigned. Manamparan, now on his last term, is running for vice mayor in the town with his son as mayor.

Brigadier General Daniel Lucero, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, said the 35th Infantry Battalion under Col. Romulo Manuel, Jr helped in assisting the family of Manamparan in filing the criminal case against the Alando family, avoiding a potential bloody confrontation between the two warring Muslim clans.

Among those charged were Naser Alando, Tamanaan Alando, Pendatun Acub-Alando, Faisal Solaiman, Aladin Solaiman, Salahudin Solaiman, Abul Alando, Opao Olando, Budo Alando, Ayan Alando, Bernal Acub, Bany Alando, Caucad Alando, Palawan Alando and Baunto Solaiman who were allegedly behind the ambush.

Lucero said army units Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur were ordered to take pre-emptive measures to prevent the escalation of hostilities. (Mindanao Examiner)
