ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – An elderly man, armed with a scythe, was shot and killed after he attacked a group of policemen trying to pacify him during a quarrel in Olutanga town in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga Sibugay, officials said Sunday.
Officials said Estelito Tumulac, 63, did not reach the hospital alive after being shot once in the abdomen by PO2 Crisanto Darunday. The policemen were in the area after a villager, Rodel Contridas, 21, sought the help of authorities because Tumulac had been threatening him.
Policemen ordered Tumulac to throw away his weapon and surrender peacefully, but the man said he feared no one and not even them, and then he ran towards the officers forcing one of the lawman to shoot him.
It was not immediately known what triggered Tumulac to threaten Contridas. (Mindanao Examiner)
