Sulu fishermen get fiber glass boats

SULU – At least 50 motorized fishing boats made of fiber glass have been awarded to 100 beneficiaries as a livelihood support for fishermen in the southern Philippine province of Sulu, officials said Thursday.

Officials said Acting Governor Nurunisah Tan led the distribution of the 20-meter boats and complete with accessories in a ceremony held in Patikul town. The awarding of the boats was in partnership with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Photos released by the Sulu Provincial Government show the beneficiaries of the fishing boats.  

 

Fishermen from the towns of Maimbung, Jolo, Patikul, Indanan and Parang benefited from the program. They praised the provincial government and the BFAR for providing them the boats.

Governor Toto Tan, who is now on a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, earlier issued directives to his appropriate functionaries to provide full support to this initiative which is beneficial to those who are based in coastal settlements and islands. (Mindanao Examiner)
