DAVAO CITY – The state-run University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) is putting up a data center which aims at aiding policymakers and involves three basic services: socio-economic or data analysis; training capability for researchers; and database management.
The project will cost around P4.89 million, according to Jennifer Hinlo, acting USEP Dean of Schools of Applied Economics. She said the project is collaboration among USEP and two other state universities – the Central Luzon State University and the Visayas State University.
Among those that would benefit from the services of the data center are the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARD), and banana farmers.
“As much as possible we will cater to as many sectors and we will start getting the needs of the industries, the government and also those private researchers,” Hinlo said. Hinlo said the data center will initially provide PCAARD several services such as the study on impact evaluation on crop insurance of beneficiaries. (Digna D. Banzon)
