Police capture 2 insurgents in Davao City, dozen more escape

Chief Editor September 21, 2018

DAVAO CITY – Police forces captured 2 communist insurgents on Friday afternoon in Davao City, the hometown of President Rodrigo Duterte, but at least 14 others managed to escape from the raiders, who were all armed with guns, officials said.

Officials said the duo – a man and woman – have been captured after policemen, led by Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum, raided a house on a remote area called Langub in Maa village.

Two suspected New People’s Army rebels are captured Friday, September 21, 2018, in Davao City in Mindanao in these screen shots from a live Brigada News Davao radio broadcast on Facebook.  Police also recover a fragmentation grenade, a revolver, electrical wire, cell phones, among other things. Tagum, the city’s police chief, said those who escaped were armed with .45-caliber pistols. “Pursuit operation is going on,” he told reporters.

He said villagers tipped off the police on the presence of gunmen in the area and police immediately launched the operation that led to the capture of the 2 members of the New People’s Army.

Tagum said the rebels were up to something after policemen recovered a map and three motorcycles left behind by the insurgents, who are fighting for a separate state.

The identities of those captured were not immediately available, but the woman has denied the allegations against them. The duo would be placed under interrogation while the operation against the NPA is continuing in Davao City, where the rebels are actively operating. (Mindanao Examiner)
