Editor May 26, 2025

DAVAO CITY – It wa’s a fun time with Sun Life when it brought its original board game, Play for Life: A Game of Choices, down south to Davao City. This game was designed to make financial literacy within the grasp of everyday experience.

The board game thrilled the attendees at the recent Coffee & Play event attended by Sun Life clients, held at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf branch at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Play for Life simulates real life as it involves Life Wins, Life Choices, and Life Happens situations. A player wins the game once they have accumulated enough play money to reach their set goal.

“The objective of this board game is to make financial literacy or financial planning friendly,” said Michelle Villalonga, Client Segment Marketing Specialist of Sun Life Philippines. “Since we observed that financial concepts are not easily understood by most individuals, Play for Life Sun Life’s way of making financial literacy fun and engaging for more Filipinos.

Villalonga adds that this fun board game simulates real life financial experiences.Sometimes, life happens when we least expect it, so one has to be ready, she shares. “During the game, you realize how important it is to be financially prepared for when those scenarios happen.”

At the Coffee & Play event, Sun Life financial advisors facilitate the game and help attendees process the post-game experience. Villalonga said, “After playing the game, our advisors sit down with the attendees to process the lessons they learned from the game and they realize the importance of making bright financial choices.

Villalonga said that they are optimistic of the new and innovative way that Sun Life is imparting the benefits of financial literacy to more Filipinos. She adds that Sun Life plans to hold more Coffee & Play events across the country.

Sun Life remained the number one life insurance company in the Philippines based on total premium income, according to a report by the Insurance Commission of the Philippines. It posted total earned premiums amounting to ₱57.15 billion in 2025, to make a ₱9-billion distance to the nearest competitor.

This established their record as the market leader for the 14th year in a row. (PR)
